A dispatch paper in Emerging Infectious Diseases (of CDC) has reported on, 'Aerosol and Surface Distribution of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 in Hospital Wards, Wuhan, China, 2020'.
The paper points out that the SARS-CoV-2 was distributed widely in the air and on all surfaces in almost all areas of the hospitals (general wards, ICU, etc) while the degree of contamination was higher in the ICUs. The aerosol transmission distance was estimated to be 4 meters.
The Hospital remains a high risk source of possible infection for medical staff and their close contacts. This risk must be mitigated by stricter protective measures and increased safety practices.
